Great Aussie Camp Out Set to Mark National Camping Day 2012

Sept. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Australians from all walks of life are set to celebrate National Camping Day by
participating in the Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) on Saturday 13th October,
2012.

Unofficially, GACO is the world’s largest community camping event, with well over
10,000 official participants expected, and many, many more joining in!

GACO gives Aussies everywhere the best excuse to celebrate the great outdoors by
camping with friends, family or solo at a campsite of choice: in the paddock,
treehouse, cave, backyard, National Park or even the loungeroom!

The mission behind GACO is to get more Aussies outdoors more often. A
growing body of research shows that with an increasingly obese and sedentary
community, the health and social benefits of spending time participating in outdoor
activities with family and friends is significant. GACO aims to reignite Aussie’s love
affair for camping and camping culture.

According to ACA Chief Executive, David Petherick, GACO is a great way to share
our nation’s passion for the great outdoors. “I urge all Aussies to dust off the sleeping
bag, re-fill the gas bottle, and blow up the li-lo,” he said. “A lot of us have forgotten
what a great experience camping with family and friends actually can be. It’s time to
put the annual camping trip back on the calendar - now how good would that be?”
