A Cardiovascular Public Health Awareness Program was organised by  Dr Rishi Gupta from Asian Institute of Medical Sciences ,Faridabad. Mili Gangrade & Rajan Dhawnde from Heart Insure Team and Tarun Kumar & Kushal Singh from Vascular Concepts Ltd. coordinated the event at Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad on 30th September 2012.
The Program included free medical check up and presentations on “Lifestyle Management after angioplasty”, “Diet for Heart Patients” “Role of yoga and exercises” for lifestyle modulation, as well as free distribution of BP machines.
Dr. Rishi Gupta while, addressing the seminar, said that Indians around the world have the highest rate of heart diseases. Coronary Artery Disease/Heart Attack is the main cause of death all over the world. .Even women in India have high rates of heart disease. Heart attacks are mainly caused by a blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart. Earlier it was treated only by conducting an open heart bypass surgery.
Today several treatment options, such as ANGIOPLASTY, where medical devices like Stents (metallic tubular structure crimped on a balloon which gives support to the walls of the vessel), BALLOON ANGIOPLASTY, where a small balloon like device is threaded through the artery to open the blockage, are available.
In order to prevent the cardiac disease we need to change our lifestyle as well. This includes healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco and smoking. This is where Heart Insure Program plays an important role.
Dr.Rishi Gupta is coordinating the Disease Management Program along with the Heart Insure Team. This is done by making follow up calls to the patients on a regular basis. The patients are also given a Disease Management Kit before discharge. This kit is available in local Indian languages and contains information on heart disease, good eating habits, importance of physical exercise and suggestions for reducing stress.
This unique health awareness programme “Heart Insure” also ensures that if there is a recurrence of the disease at the site of the treated vessel, the patient is financially helped by offering them a certain amount of reimbursement, for the repeat treatment.
