Sports Have Helped Push Torrey Alvord Leroy Towards Success

When you set a goal and routinely meet the set goal, positive associations merge with hard work, and individuals are driven to continue their streak of success. For Torrey Leroy, many of her early sports successes—coupled with her hardworking nature—have helped to set a path of academic as well as personal achievement.

Torrey Leroy has a fondness for sports and staying physically active. While this will help to keep her healthy throughout her adult life, her physical activity comes more from her enjoyment of sports rather than her drive to stay healthy. As a young adult attending Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut, Torrey Leroy enjoyed participating in track, squash, and soccer. Her passion for soccer pushed her to practice hard and earned her various awards and recognitions such as 2005 and 2006 Hall High Girls Soccer Most Valuable Player.

In addition to earning Most Valuable Player as a high school student, Torrey Alvord Leroy would become a four year starter for Yale University Women’s Soccer Team where she was awarded with Most Valuable Player again in 2011. Her sports awards and recognitions before her Yale University recognition also include Hall High Girls Soccer 2004 Golden Boot Award, Connecticut Girls Soccer Association Allstate Award 2006, and Super Y League Olympic Development Program Select Player 2009.

Torrey A. Leroy’s soccer and sport involvement taught her many leadership and team skills. Many of these leadership skills would help to benefit Torrey Leroy as a university student with an eye on advertisement and media communication. Her leadership and academic skills were even recognized at Yale where she was awarded the C. Gilbert Shepard Award in 2011. The C. Gilbert Award has been awarded “annually since 1979 to the student from the Hartford region who excels in scholarship, leadership, and athletics at Yale in his/her freshman year.”

As the 2011 recipient of the C. Gilbert Shephard Award, Torrey A. Leroy is justly proud of her achievement. She knows that sports have helped to shape her into the successful, academically-driven individual she is today.
