New guidance on standards for National Park development

A new document that sets out the required standards for development, such as new housing, has been adopted by the New Forest National Park Authority.

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The document supplements existing planning policies in the New Forest National Park Authority’s adopted Core Strategy (2010), and will be used to inform planning decisions made by the Authority.

It provides detailed guidance for developers on the requirements for car parking and cycling provision associated with new development, ensuring that new development meets sustainable construction standards and the requirements for providing open space.

The document also provides additional guidance on the Authority’s affordable housing requirements and the consideration of new development close to protected New Forest habitats – two issues that are particularly important in the context of planning in the New Forest National Park.

A wide range of people and organisations gave feedback on the document, including town and parish councils, developers and landowners, and the final version was formally adopted by the Authority on 27 September.

Pat Wyeth, Chair of the Planning and Development Control Committee at the New Forest National Park Authority, said: ‘The document will provide further clarity for planning applicants and local communities considering new development.  The Authority has worked closely with key partners, including Natural England, and has fully considered all of the responses received during the consultation in producing the final document.’
