By: Blue Collar Marketing "I just want to do for others what someone did for me when I was a teen," Cook says. “When they to church, today, they’re afraid to say certain things, so I am reaching out and writing to that market, letting them know they’re loved just as they are.” In his book Regener8: Straight Talk for Street Smart Teens, Cook writes and talks to youth in their language. “I don’t sugar coat it. I tell it like it is.” But Cook’s take on pornography, drugs, evangelism, the Bible, religion, spiritual regeneration, giving and prayer, can be controversial, especially with adults. “I have parents come up to me and say, ‘My child is good, he doesn’t watch porn,’ but I know different. I hear what they’re whispering to their friends. Our ministry is designed to help young men kick those secret addictions.” For example, in “Teen Takes” Cook includes raw comments from teenagers who have come through battles with drugs, alcohol and porn. Cook calls Regener8 “a fast, in your face read. It’s an eight week blue print for real life. It’s definitely not your parent's devotional!” Like the book, 252 Underground is an edgy urban ministry. In 2006, Cook rented and created a place where teens could come, be accepted, hang out, hear good music, play games, meet mentors and hear a story that changed the lives of millions. Even though they had to give that space up and are searching for a new place to call home, they have kept the name, still meeting with the kids in his hime. “We call it 252 Underground because in Luke 2:52 it says Jesus, ‘left the Temple and grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.’ That’s our goal with 252 and this book – to help teens grow in favor with God and others.” Cook will be signing books Friday, October 5 at the Berean Christian Store in Souderton from 6-8 and Saturday, October 6 at the Berean Christian Store in Lancaster from 11-2.
