NGUYEN Dr. Giao Nguyen graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree of Doctor of Optometry in 1999 from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice University (1986). Dr. Giao has 4 children: Robin (a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin), Leslie (an undergraduate student at Rice University), Chloe (also a Rice student), and Spencer (a student the Mark Twain Elementary School). She spends most of her spare time filling her first-grader's demands, and on her newly found hobby: knitting! She dabbles in gardening occasionally, and watches the Food channel, wishfully thinking she will have time to try the recipes some day. Her specialties include, family practice, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, contact lens fitting, and computer vision syndrome evaluation. OUR SERVICES Professional Eye Examinations Our comprehensive eye examinations include: * Listening to your concerns and answering your questions * Evaluation of your refractive status to determine the need for vision correction. * Evaluation of the binocular status to assess coordination of the eyes. * Examination of ocular health, including glaucoma screening and dilated retinal evaluation, for abnormality or pathology. * Initiation of treatment and/or immediate referral for specialized care. Treatment of Eye Diseases Dr. Nguyen and her associates have therapeutic licenses to treat most eye diseases such as inflamation, conjunctivitis, and other infections. We also work with many ophthalmologists in the Houston area to ensure that you get the necessary referral for specialized care as needed. To aid us with more indepth screening for eye diseases, we have a visual field analyzer that enables early detection of glaucoma as well as many neurological and retinal diseases. In addition, we have the new Zeiss retinal camera to procure photographic images of your retina. This enables our doctors to take time studying the retinal vaculature and structural integrity for better detection and diagnosis of any abnormality. Contact Lens Fitting Our fitting begins with answering any question you may have about contact lenses. The doctors will inquire about your work, lifestyle, hobbies, etc. to determine the type of lenses best fitted for your visual demand. The next step is to provide you with a set of trial lenses to wear for 1-2 weeks to decide whether the contacts are suitable for your eyes and your visual needs. Based on your feedback after the trial period, we will produce either a final prescription or order more trials for you. We have an extensive in-office set of trial lenses that will fit most prescriptions. If your eyes require more specialized lenses, we are able to order such trials directly from manufacturers. A final prescription is written only after you are satisfied with the contacts. Currently, soft and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses are available in single-vision, bifocal, and multifocal powers. Both types have lenses that made with special materials that transmit more oxygen to the cornea, allowing the wearer to sleep in them without causing health concerns. Also in the market are lenses made with materials that will minimize dehydration for better comfort and longer lens wear without redness or irritation.
