Attorney Andrea D. Cartwright Commended for Pro Bono Work in Court System

Oct. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Michigan honored Detroit bankruptcy attorney Andrea D. Cartwright earlier this year with a thank you letter and a certificate of appreciation for serving in the court’s pro bono program throughout 2011. The attorney’s volunteerism is just one way she serves individuals in her community who need assistance in managing their debt and finance-related problems.

The letter, which was signed by Chief Judge Phillip J. Shefferly, commended Ms. Cartwright and other attorneys who “selflessly provide representation that results in a fair and just resolution of cases either through settlement or the judicial process.” Shefferly wrote that it is clear that these individuals do not offer their services for the purpose of obtaining public recognition, but rather because they “see the value of the public service” that they provide.

Pro bono legal services are an extremely important part of maintaining a fair judicial system. It gives individuals who are unable to able to afford appropriate legal counsel a chance of having fair representation. Cases related to bankruptcy law usually involve matters that have major impacts on the people involved. Bankruptcies often help individuals remain in their homes, and they usually set up plans and structures that allow these individuals to safeguard their families’ financial wellbeing.
