Follow on Google News | Attorney Andrea D. Cartwright Commended for Pro Bono Work in Court SystemThe Detroit bankruptcy attorney has been recognized for volunteering her time to the pro bono program of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court—Eastern District of Michigan.
The letter, which was signed by Chief Judge Phillip J. Shefferly, commended Ms. Cartwright and other attorneys who “selflessly provide representation that results in a fair and just resolution of cases either through settlement or the judicial process.” Shefferly wrote that it is clear that these individuals do not offer their services for the purpose of obtaining public recognition, but rather because they “see the value of the public service” that they provide. Pro bono legal services are an extremely important part of maintaining a fair judicial system. It gives individuals who are unable to able to afford appropriate legal counsel a chance of having fair representation. Cases related to bankruptcy law usually involve matters that have major impacts on the people involved.
