Quassy Amusement Park Dodges Major Damage From Hurricane

Hurricane Sandy Spares Century-Old Quassy Amusement Park In Connecticut

Oct. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Quassy Amusement Park here sustained only minor damage when Hurricane Sandy roared ashore Monday.

Tuesday morning, park officials were able to assess the impact of Sandy and found minimal damage throughout the 20-acre lakeside property.

One tree limb crashed down on the track of “Wooden Warrior,” Quassy’s marquee roller coaster.

“Fortunately, the ride was not damaged,” Quassy President Eric Anderson reported.

Other tree limbs were blown down throughout the park, but there was no visible damage to rides or structures.  Quassy closed on Oct. 6 for the 2012 season and many of the mechanical rides had been dismantled for the winter months before Sandy came to town.

Last summer Quassy had to close for a day when Hurricane Irene marched up the East Coast and slammed into New England. The 104-year-old property was pretty much unscathed while surrounding communities were inundated by heavy rain and wind.

While Quassy also dodged the wrath of Sandy, other regions of Connecticut were not as fortunate. Serious damage has been reported along the shoreline of Long Island Sound. Hundreds of thousands of residents were also left without power in the state.

The park opens again in April for its 2013 season. For more information visit www.quassy.com.
