Oct. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Atlanta – October 18, 2012 – Next week, Grape Crush Productions is honoring two of Atlanta’s champions for the sustainable and healthy food movement during the Organic Wine & Food Fair on National Food Day.  The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 6-10 p.m. at the Trees Atlanta Kendada Center, a LEED Platinum Certified community resource full of sustainable features, located in the Reynoldstown neighborhood. Those being honored are The Junior League of Atlanta’s Kids in the Kitchen (http://www.jlatlanta.org/?nd=kids_in_the_kitchen) program and OrganiX Food Lounge (http://www.organixfoodlounge.com/).

As guests enjoy a complimentary tasting of artisan wines from around the globe (many from organically grown grapes) and live entertainment they’ll also have the opportunity to shop at the local “green” pop-up market and savor delicious fare. Georgia Organics will give the audience tips on how-to “eat real,” by purchasing or growing their own sustainable and organic products.

Those being honoured at this inaugural event have shown an outstanding and innovative commitment to providing healthy dietary options to all members of the Atlanta community, from  fighting childhood obesity to adults  making a more environmentally conscious decision when dining out.

The Junior League of Atlanta (http://www.jlatlanta.org/) was organized in 1916, and now is the third largest Junior League in the world with a membership numbering nearly 4,000 members. This year, Junior League of Atlanta will contribute more than 75,000 volunteer hours, valued at nearly $2 million dollars, along with $250,000 in grant funding to its community partners that support its mission to improve the lives of women and children in Atlanta. Today, a critical element of their ongoing commitment is teaching kids and their parents about the importance of eating healthy foods and involving them in the fight against childhood obesity.  Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen program is doing something about it in more than 200 communities in four countries.  Its goal is to promote child health and wellness by empowering children and youth to make healthy lifestyle choices, therefore preventing obesity and its associated health risks.

The mission of OrganiX Food Lounge (http://www.organixfoodlounge.com/) is to provide a healthy alternative for dining and cocktails, by providing organic spirits and beverages.  Located  at 239 Ponce de Leon Avenue, NE. OrganiX is a 3,900 square feet bar that features a wide variety of unique organic and vegetarian dishes. The focus of OrganiX is to provide guests a healthy option while drinking out and having fun.

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and movement towards more healthy, affordable and sustainable food. The holiday brings together all aspects of food from sustainable agriculture, to nutrition and health, to access and affordability. Food Day is more than just another day. It is a smart, timely grassroots campaign to raise awareness and find solutions to problems inherent to our food system.

“In honor of Food Day, we’re eager to  recognize those who are making a difference in our community by providing healthy and organic meal options, as well as educate Atlantans on how they can incorporate these practices into their own lives,” states Kyla Cox, founder and president of Grape Crush Productions.  “The Junior League of Atlanta and OrganiX Food Lounge are both committed to making our community a healthy and sustainable one.”
