Coast Title’s Sandra McDermott Completes Continuing Education

Palm Coast, FL – Coast Title is excited to announce that owner Sandra McDermott has recently completed 20 hours of continuing education.

The Department of Financial Services Licensing Bureau requires 10 hours of continuing education every two years, and Sandra continues to exceed that requirement.

“There are continual changes and updates in our industry,” says McDermott. “We strive to keep our entire team educated with the latest information so that we can provide the best service possible to our clients. And while this is required by the Department of Financial Services, I genuinely enjoy every opportunity to learn about this competitive and complicated industry,” she added.

Her courses included:

•   Running the Numbers – Rate Calculation and the Promulgated Rate: A review of the proper way to calculate title insurance premiums and figuring when reissue credits apply and how to figure them.

•   Titanic Title Issues – How to Avoid Hitting an Iceberg: An in depth discussion on how title insurance claims occur. Title Insurance is a one-time fee paid at closing and it protects the purchaser in a transaction from any clouds that may be on their title.  This course also covered ways to protect all parties involved in the transaction against real estate fraud.  

•   Water Rights Issues and Concerns in Florida: A review of how landowners’ rights are affected when property abuts various bodies of water.

McDermott has also written her own Basic Title Insurance Workshop Course. She coaches recently-licensed sales associates and those studying for their broker’s exams on how to research title and how to read HUD statements. She also explains the complicated escrow portion of the closing process.
