By: UNESCO-TST Our UNESCO-TST Mission is to promote the understanding of UNESCO's mission and ideals and to translate them into programs. We will promote intercultural dialogue among students, professionals and other enthusiasts through education, science and culture. We chose Veteran’s Day weekend, immediately after the United States Presidential election and ninety-two years after the November 2, 1920, Voter Rights Massacre in Ocoee, (just 10 miles west of Orlando). Documented stories are presented by our Friday morning speaker, Dr. Marvin Dunn, author and retired Professor of Florida International University, Miami. The Florida legislative perspective is covered by our Friday dinner speaker, Dr. Alzo Reddick, a former Florida Representative. We will discuss ways to make our society a better place for all cultures. Presentations and breakout sessions: The Virgil D. Hawkins Civil Rights Foundation, Inc. Leesburg; The Democracy Forum’s Ocoee Project, Orlando; The Groveland Four, Groveland; The Newberry Six, Newberry; The Manny Price and Robert Suggs Case, Newberry; The Willie James Howard Case, Live Oak; The Harry T. & Harriette V. Participants will include academicians, descendants, politicians, friends and grass root leaders. The conference will provide an unforgettable experience, for all people and students; and offer a Friday night movie. On Saturday, a bus tour of historical sites in Central Florida will also be provided. To further the work of truth and reconciliation, we will close with a memorial service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando on Sunday morning, November 11th, to commemorate Mr. July Perry and others from the Ocoee Massacre of 1920.
