Follow on Google News | America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration Parade and Event WeekendAmerica's only historically accurate chronological parade is coming to Downtown Plymouth the weekend before Thanksgiving.
In 2011 over two thousand thousand people gathered to watch a group of dedicated volunteers visually bring to life America’s rich heritage representing each century from the 17th through the 21st. The parade features beautifully decorated floats, nationally recognized Drum and Bugle Corps, re-enactment units from every period of American history and military marching units. Patriotism and hope is revived in the hearts of observant adults and children as the drum and fife, drum and bugle corps, and military bands play music honoring the courageous defenders of the country: the men and women who serve in the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force and the Coast Guard. Educational and economic factors aside, the parade offers plenty of fun and entertainment to attract visitors from all corners of the United States and even beyond. Music, historical reenactments, vintage American cars and beautiful handmade floats are all part of the visual feast and fun. Viewers are treated to a visual trip back to the colonial days and beyond. Opening ceremonies will take place at 10:30am on Saturday November 17th 2012 and will feature exciting musical performances. The parade steps off on at the Benny’s Plaza at 11:00am. Shortly thereafter attendees will watch in amazement as the US Navy Flyby of America's Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration F - 18's Hornets from Strike Fighter Squadron 15 - Valion Pride, from NAS Oceana. The Flyby will come from north to south along historic Plymouth waterfront at 1000 feet at 250 mph. The addition of the F-18’s Hornets is only one of the many exiting features in the 2012 parade. The USS Langley, the United States first aircraft carrier taking its maiden voyage in 1922, will be replicated in a parade float as well as the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides” remembering the war of 1812. The final new featured float is a replica of the space shuttle Discovery commemorating the many years of space travel and the courage of the explorers who went beyond our world. The 2012 Grand Parade Marshalls will once again be the members of the WCVB Channel 5 News Team. The team will also host the Friday night Patriot Concert at Memorial Hall featuring Navy Band Country Current featuring Bluegrass and Country Music.
