Assistant Coach Stephen Souky Announces Undefeated Season for St. Paul’s Girls

Nov. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Niskayuna, NY - Assistant Coach Stephen Souky is proud to announce that the St. Paul’s Junior Girls CYO basketball team has finished their 2011 season with a 21-0 record, after winning the St Henry’s Tournament.

“I’m extraordinarily proud of the St. Paul’s girls,” said assistant coach Stephen Souky. “There was a lot of talent on this team, but also a lot of hard work, dedication, and cooperation.”

According to Stephen Souky, the St Paul’s team, which hails from Schenectady, New York, utilized a style of play that focuses on using the whole team to score points collectively and cooperatively, rather than employing only power forwards to make baskets like many other teams. The team averaged 55 points as a whole per game throughout the season, said Stephen Souky, and continued to work, train, and play hard even as they racked up win after win.

“While a lot of teams who start a season strong will become complacent, the St Paul’s Girls Basketball Team maintained a high level of focus, commitment, and drive throughout the whole season,” remarked Stephen Souky. “We never had that mid season slump, and instead, the girls played every match as if they were going to have to dig in and claw their way up from a big points differential.”

For the Saint Paul Junior Girls CYO Basketball Team, an undefeated season is not an unprecedented event, but is surely exciting to the girls on the team, as well as their coaches, all the same.

Stephen Souky, who was an all star basketball player at Linton High school in the late 1980s and also played in college for SUNY Fredonia, has coached a number of youth girls basketball teams in the Schenectady area, as both assistant and head coach.

Stephen Souky founded the Mohawk Valley Heat, and was head coach of the Saratoga Sparks for one year before becoming head coach of the Niskayuna Girls Travel Basketball Biddy B side as well as the league coordinator for Niskayuna Girls Travel Basketball as a whole. In addition to basketball, Stephen Souky is an ACE certified softball coach, and is head coach of the Niskayuna Girls Travel Softball Team.
