While I have followed the story, I believe it would be inappropriate for me to speak about another nonprofit organization based on news media reports. And while we have similar missions we are different organizations and have different philosophies and approaches. I can say this: At our small headquarters in Missouri we have a gun range. It is our belief that wounded warriors are adults and trying to keep them from weapons, at least in our thinking, would be not only impossible but insulting. The small range is available to them to use or not use at their discretion not ours. These are the people who have fought for our 2nd amendment freedoms and we have no desire to deprive them of the freedom to enjoy a day at the range. For most it seems to be a good experience for them, something they are familiar with and enjoy. Many stories have been shared at our range and that is always helpful. It is our belief that guns and knives are tools that made our country great and we celebrate that with our wounded, ill and injured. May God bless our country and those who defend her. Steve Newton Silver Star Families of America The Silver Star Families of America has one mission: To remember, honor and assist the wounded, ill, injured and dying of our Armed Forces from all wars. We pay no salaries and our overhead is running at about 3%. That means 97 cents of every dollar donated goes to where our donors want it to go—to our veterans. www.silverstarfamilies.org End
