(December 1, 2012)-- Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) of Miami Dade College is focused on educating both budding chefs and consumers about healthy eating in innovative ways. One of the ways MCI is accomplishing this feat is through a cooking competition. The first annual “Dr. G’s MCI Student Culinary Cook Off” has been integrated into the Institute’s fall curriculum and encompasses six teams of two students each. Two teams will be competing to create healthy, sensible breakfast menus; two teams for lunch; and two teams for dinner options. The five-week competition will be videotaped and streamed on the Miami Culinary Institute’s public TV station, and will culminate in a cook-off and awards presentation. And who better to judge a health-centered cooking competition than Celebrity Chef Marcelo Marino?Marcelo Marino is the Executive Chef of Green House Organic Restaurant in North Miami Beach which focuses on upscale and exotic organic menu items. Marcelo hand-selects only the freshest and high quality organic ingredients and is be quickly becoming the authority on organic cooking. Executive In designing his menu, he studies the optimal cooking methods to extract the most flavor and nutrients while using the least amount of fat. Marcelo shares Miami Culinary's Institute's passion for educating chef's and consumers alike; Marcelo was an Instructor and Dean for Le Cordon Bleu and continues educating his chef's at Green House. Other high-profile judges are John Richards, executive director, Miami Culinary Institute; Chef Collen Engle, nutritionist and chef/professor, Miami Culinary Institute; Dr. Charles Goldsmith, founder, Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness; and internationally known Chef Norman Van Aiken, director of restaurants, Miami Culinary Institute. Judging will be based on presentation, taste, sense of ease, and nutritional value.
