mycostaricafarm founder seeks Permaculture Training, finds himself along the way

Dec. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Awakening Soul is located between Rivas and Chiripo.  Also nearby is the city of San Isidro; the entire area is best described as Costa Rica's own Shire, a place of stunning beauty and peacefullness. Cooler temps than one might expect in Costa Rica, perfect for a working permaculture farm. To the untrained eye it appears chaotic in it's layout. Various fruits and veggies share space. The permaculture philosophy puts harmonious plants along side each other; neither then needs pesticides. Time and energy resources are saved; many elements supply the energy with each other, and the system becomes largely self-regulating. With everyday herbs located adjacent to the home, and trees requiring annual visits furthest away, there's time to work on self.

WHAT YOU GIVE UP: Daily vices such as coffee, alcohol, tv, internet, and more absent. Morning yoga, organic meals prefaced with giving thanks, a big day of work on the farm and 8pm sleeptime take their place, and those daily worries lose importance. Climbing the ‘cookies’ or slices of timber/ stepping stones up and down the hilly terrain wear thin at first. Old knee injuries, back pain and headaches can prevail the first few days. In about a week farm strength and the rythyms of nature take hold.  

JAILBREAK: Trading the farm discipline for a San Isidro Saturday felt like a jailbreak to David Giesecke, founder of mycostaricafarm. He watched football, drank beer, ate pork, drank coffee, and talked to strangers (yes it’s true, San Isidro is blessed with an abundance of attractive women). These comforts, while extremely satisfying, were simply masking the pain of an incomplete life. This realization was part of a profound Awakening.

THE AWAKENING:The Land Rover was parked on the farm's newly cut road, free of gravel and traction. After days of torrential evening downpours, a couple days of sunshine provided to move the truck closer to the main road. Unfortunately the farm trail is like pudding, street tires like 4 donuts. Stuck immediately, hours spent filling muck with rocks and sticks. Finally bouncing through the soft spot, David's satisfaction turned to intense fear. Time stood still as the truck slipped towards a 50 foot cliff. People talk of seeing their lives flash before their eyes; David saw the movie Jaws! Diesel belching ship and proud captain being eaten alive by monster shark. The Big Fish is taking me down, he thought. With a primal scream, he cursed his fate. Near death experiences while surfing can be managed. There is no survival system for tumbling down a ravine. A glimpse into his soul. Unsure of exactly what he saw but managing to steer clear, he stumbled out of the truck, bare feet feeling life energy blasting up from the soil. The earth was talking, and it wanted to fall. Looking up, David saw he parked in the midst of a massive mudslide area. The weakest spot on the trail, and the Rover’s parked right on it. Paralized with fear, running around in circles laughing screaming crying,  the fear coursing through his body became intoxicating. After some period of time he climbed back in, eased the brake and moved another 20 feet to safety. The intense energy changed to gratitude. Gratefulness for life washed over him for the first time in his life. Tears of joy streaming down, negativity, fear and anxiety gone. Fear of financial ruin, loneliness, hopelessness, it was all gone. Folks spend years meditating and doing yoga to feel this power.  David had his awakening.
