Helix Medical Centers Host An Open House Affair With A Cause This Thursday December 13

Dec. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Lake Worth, FL- Helix Medical Centers of Lake Worth (formerly known as Integral Clinic) is hosting an open house, ribbon cutting ceremony and fundraiser to benefit Layla Ansonia, a 5 month old child battling a rare malignant liver cancer called Heptoblastoma. The event will take place on Thursday December 13 at 6pm at their 2311 10th Avenue North, Lake Worth facility.

Helix Medical Centers learned about Layla and her condition through the Connor Moran Children's Cancer Foundation. According to Brenda Stone, Helix's general manager, "We were deeply saddened by the physical and financial adversity this single mother of 4 had to cope with. We were excited and honored to be able to help the family at this most challenging of times."

Layla's mother first noticed a lump on her abdomen while changing her diaper, approximately 3 months ago, when their lives changed forever. Only 2 of 100,000 children under the age of 14 have this diagnosis. Layla was admitted to a clinical trial at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami where doctors are attempting to shrink the tumor to a size where it can be removed, through massive doses of chemotherapy. A second round of chemotherapy will follow that procedure and if that fails, Layla will need a liver transplant. Doctors are afraid that the experimental treatment may damage the little girl's vocal chords leaving her with permanent speech problems or even mute.

The community residents and businesses are invited to become part of the event and help Layla and her family in their ongoing battle against cancer.
