University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Celebrating Centennial in 2013

Dec. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- It was in 1913 that the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry became a fully recognized College within the University of Illinois system, so the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2013.

The College’s Centennial celebration will feature special events throughout 2013 in which hundreds of UIC College of Dentistry alumni, faculty, staff, and students, as well as Loyola and Northwestern alumni and friends of the College, will gather to celebrate under the theme A Proud Past, A Brilliant Future.

"It will be a year of honoring not only the College’s history, but the alumni, friends, students, faculty, staff, and corporate and organized dentistry partners who have embraced our commitment to excellence in dental education and who have been inspired by our Vision to make our College a world leader over the past 100 years," said Dean Bruce Graham.

"These events will provide a literally once-in-a-century opportunity for you to reconnect with and meet members of the UIC College of Dentistry family as we celebrate our history," said Dr. Susan A. Rowan, ’84, President of the Dental Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Events planned for the Centennial year, including three special Centennial Signature Events, are:

* Pizza Party preceding UIC Flames-Loyola Ramblers basketball game, Wednesday, Jan. 16. All-you-can-eat pregame pizza party sponsored by the College. Cost $5, for both the party and game ticket. Pizza party to be held at Student Services Building, 1200 W. Harrison St., 5:30 p.m. Game at UIC Pavilion, across the street, 525 S. Racine Ave., 7 p.m.

*College of Dentistry Reception in conjunction with Chicago Dental Society Meeting, Chicago, Friday, Feb. 22, 6 to 8 p.m., Hotel Intercontinental, 505 N. Michigan Ave.

* Clinic and Research Day, UIC College of Dentistry, all day, Thursday, March 7. Continuing Education credit available. Keynote speaker, Dr. James E. Melvin, Clinical Director, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of health; oral and poster presentations; dental product and service exhibits; competitions; networking; and food. *Hundred Years of Research Excellence: Celebrating our College’s Legacy,

Saturday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 20, Chicago. The conference will celebrate the 100-year UIC College of Dentistry Oral Biology legacy. With topics ranging from craniofacial evolution and development, functional morphology, mineralized tissue biology, epigenetics, and tissue regeneration, the conference will embrace cutting edge Oral Biology science and pay homage to the scholarship that propelled the College to the forefront of dental research. Interspersed between scientific presentations and posters will be historical memoirs about the great minds that shaped the discipline.

*Continuing Education at Sea. Thursday, July 4, through Thursday, July 11. Seven-day Alaskan cruise aboard Silversea. Seward, Alaska to Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Rand F. Harlow, ’92, Prosthodontics ’97, Clinical Assistant Professor, Restorative Dentistry, will present his course, Implant Dentistry: Past, Present, and Future, for six hours of CE credit.
