Federal Defense Mentor Program Selects Snell & Wilmer Attorney Justin Cochran

Dec. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that Justin Cochran, an attorney in the Las Vegas office, was recently accepted into the Federal Defense Mentor Program chaired by United States Magistrate Judge Leen.

The Mentor Program was developed by Chief Judge Hunt to introduce lawyers to federal criminal practice and train those that are interested in applying for the Criminal Justice Act Panel. The program consists of three, three-hour classes and participants are paired with a mentor who is an experienced federal criminal practitioner and a member of the CJA Panel. Each participant is assigned to complete activities expected of a CJA Panel member including: bail hearings, motion hearings, trials, sentencing hearings, motion preparation, client contact, sentencing guideline analysis, plea negotiations and plea hearings. The program culminates in a federal criminal mock trial in which all of the mentees participate.

“This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and to learn from skilled attorneys and judges,” Cochran said. “I look forward to interacting with Judge Leen and learning more about the federal process. This is a fascinating practice and I am honored to have been selected to participate in this program.”

Cochran’s practice includes representing corporate and individual clients in both state and federal government criminal and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. Cochran has defended or is currently defending clients in federal investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Department of Interior – Inspector General’s Office (DOI-IG), and U.S. Social Security Administration – Inspector General’s Office (SSA-IG). He also represents financial institutions in consumer finance and commercial bank litigation.
