Snow King Ski Patrol inks partnership for uniforms from Outdoor Research

(Dec. 18, 2012) – Snow King Mountain in Jackson, Wyo., embodies the spirit of the “town hill,” the kind of ski area that touches every level of a skiing community. On any given day, people on the hill range from high schoolers and professional-level racers who are training to first-timers learning to ski, locals out for a few laps on their lunch hour to visitors in town for a week of skiing.

The fact that the ski area is such a deep part of the fabric of the community made it a natural partner for Outdoor Research, the Seattle-based manufacturer of outdoor and ski apparel and accessories. Starting this winter at the “King,” as it’s locally known, the all-volunteer, 32-member ski patrol will use uniforms provided exclusively by Outdoor Research.

“Our philosophy has always been to build gear for real people who like real outdoor adventures – period. Snow King Mountain, with its breadth of different kinds of skiers using the mountain for very different reasons, really embodies that,” said Jordan Wand, VP of Product and Marketing for Outdoor Research. “Beyond having patrollers represent our brand in a place with such a strong ski community like this, we value the real-world feedback that operations like Snow King using our gear provide us.”

Operating since 1936, Snow King was first ski area to operate in Wyoming, and offers an impressive 1,500 vertical feet just six blocks south of the center of town. Its runs span the range, from beginner to double black diamond, and Ski School Director Bill Briggs was the first person to ski Wyoming’s Grand Teton in the Teton Range, just north of town.

“Our organization is comprised of community volunteers who selflessly donate their free time to ensure the safety of the recreating public,” said Snow King Mountain Manager Adam Shankland. “We really appreciate the opportunity to create such a strong uniform program with a brand like Outdoor Research. The products are top notch, and the bottom line is they help our team do its job more effectively.”

Snow King Ski patrollers will use Outdoor Research’s Igneo jacket and pant collection, among other ski products from the OR line.

The partnership with Snow King Mountain follows news this summer that Outdoor Research would also partner with neighboring Grand Targhee Resort, located on the west side of the Teton Range, for its uniform program. Outdoor Research also has similar partnerships with Mt. Bachelor Resort in Oregon and Snoqualmie Pass Resort in Washington.
