Zippy Shell Birmingham Becomes Official Sponsor of the Mercedes Benz Marathon

"We are very excited to be assisting with the 2013 Mercedes Marathon,” said Jarrod Hart, President of Zippy Shell Birmingham. "It has been such a wonderful experience working with everyone on the event coordination team, and we owe them many thanks for allowing us to participate as a major sponsor.”

Now in its 12th year, the marathon has become an established event and tradition in Birmingham. It assures three days of fun and excitement for participants of all ages. There were more than 11,000 participants last year, and the event has grown steadily in both population and reputation each year. Since its start, the event has helped to raise over $4 million for various local charities.

Because of its established tradition and admiral fundraising efforts, the event draws people from all around the region. “This race is not only a nationally recognized event which brings people from many states and areas of the country to our wonderful city, but it is also a race that has provided millions of dollars to local charities,” Hart mentioned.

There will be Zippy containers (http://www.zippyshell.com/how-storage-containers-work/) located at water stations along the course, providing storage for the water and other needed supplies. Hart stated emphatically, “A great race for a great case—we are honored to be a part of it.”

About the Mercedes-Benz Marathon
Established in 2002 by local Birmingham residents, the Mercedes Marathon has evolved into a first-class event. It has become increasingly popular, which has lead to prosperous fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the event are given annually to two charities that provide services to children, one of which is The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs.

The course features a terrain that is fast and flat, as well as hilly and challenging at points. Participants wind through the University of Alabama-Birmingham campus and pass the famous Vulcan Statue just south of downtown.
