Volunteers assist clients with local, state and federal tax filings. In 2012, 82 MACPA volunteers brought $211,000 back to Detroit residents in refunds during the three-day program. Approximately 150 low-income individuals and families were served. MACPA is a diversified, professional, member-driven organization serving nearly 18,000 CPAs and affiliated professionals throughout Michigan. In addition to partnering with AAS for the Tax Assistance Program, MACPA has also teamed with the Karmanos Cancer Institute. They will be there to offer breast cancer screenings to female attendees. Thousands of southeast Michigan’s most needy individuals, families and retirees continue to be unable to afford professional tax assistance, and, as a result, miss out on receiving many tax credits. The MACPA and its members, in alliance with AAS, are committed to helping those in need understand their tax rights and responsibilities. Tax preparation begins at 9:00 a.m. Clients are advised to arrive before then. Focus: HOPE is located at 1300 Oakman (at Linwood), Detroit, MI 48238. End
