Follow on Google News | Chevrolet Volt Sales Numbers Triple in 2012 Due to Increased DemandGeneral Motors becomes first American car manufacturer to sell more than one million vehicles with 30 mpg rating.
Chevrolet saw the largest sales gains of any General Motors brand in 2012 with a 4.3% increase. Sales for the fuel-efficient electric Volt jumped a staggering 206% from the previous year. Its first year on the market saw only 7,671 units sold to consumers, while this past year 23,461 Volt models were sold. As a whole, the electric vehicle market made significant strides in 2012, with approximately 53,000 electric models having been sold, which is triple the numbers from 2011. With gas prices the way they have been throughout the country, it’s no surprise that car consumers are beginning to take a more serious look at better fuel-efficient vehicles, now so more than ever. The current Volt is powered by a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers 149 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. Drivers can get approximately 50 miles driving on the battery pack alone, while those who need to travel a further distance can switch over to the gasoline engine that will get them somewhere in the range of 35 mpg. With its sales having tripled over the last year, this electric hybrid is quickly becoming a favorite on the market today. Al Piemonte Chevrolet encourages its customers from the surrounding areas to stop by their dealership and take the 2013 Chevrolet Volt out for a test drive. Located at 770 Dundee Ave in Dundee, Illinois, they’re open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 9:00pm and from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday.
