Three People Should Be in Your Career, Even Your Life

Jan. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Since the day we stepped out our campus, we would start a completely new life and our independence begins from then on. Although we’ve learnt some courses relative to the future career in the campus, the real career still is different from what we have got from the books. It’s inevitable that we would feel confused and helpless. Turning to parents seems to be a little shameful, so we become more anxious and fretful. What to do next? By now we need someone who can give us the right guide, lead us to the correct way, and help us fixing the problem we meet. That’s called our personal mentor, but not an expert.

The mentors don’t have to be our direct manager or in your line of management, because that may create a conflict of interest for him/her. The mentors don’t have to be much more senior than us, but should experience more than us. The mentors don't have only to be in our career, but also can enhance our consciousness in our life. However, we totally need three different kinds of mentors in your career, even in the life. In Kaifu Lee’s words, three kinds of mentors can be the three C:

Clarifier -- An expert at analyzing and problem-solving.  A good clarifier will ask questions, listen, ask more questions, help develop multiple solutions, and finally help you pick one.  A really good clarifier should get you to a point where you can pick the solution without help, and also learn how to problem-solve for yourself the next time.

Confronter -- When you are complacent, lazy, or afraid, you need a confronter to challenge and push you, and remind you of your commitments.  Good confronters are tough and not always pleasant, but they are particularly important for those of us who lack discipline or courage.

Comforter -- A person you call when you're having trouble.  A good comforter would lend you a sympathetic ear (and occasionally a shoulder to cry on).  But he/she would help you see the silver lining in a dark cloud, and also cheer you up and give you confidence and hope.

Nevertheless, we are not so lucky sometimes to find any one of the three mentors in our lives, but the three mentors can be the ONE sometimes. Only the right mentor may be able to step into our custom shoes (http://www.shoemycolor.com/) and see the things we do in our way.
