duPont REGISTRY to display 1909 Honus Wagner T206 Baseball Card at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale

Jan. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- When thousands of classic car aficionados gather at Barrett-Jackson: The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction this week at the Westwood of Scottsdale, Arizona, one of the most valuable items on the show floor may not have wheels. On display from January 18 to 20 at the duPont REGISTRY™ showcase will be a rare 1909 Honus Wagner T206 baseball card from premier auction company Goldin Auctions that is expected to fetch upwards of $2 million in the company’s upcoming February auction.

Less than 200 Wagner cards were issued by the American Tobacco Company from 1909 to 1911 as part of the T206 series. Production of the card was halted after Wagner, the star shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates, requested that the tobacco company stopped including his image in cigarette packs. As a result, there have been less than 60 authentic Wagner cards submitted for authentication and/or grading by the major card grading companies. The Wagner card that will be on display at the duPont REGISTRY™ showcase is graded EX 5 (MC) by PSA, making it one of the three highest graded Wagner T206 cards in the world. In 2008, this exact card sold for $1.62 million.

Barrett-Jackson attendees can see the Wagner card up close by visiting the duPont REGISTRY™ showcase in space #9, where Goldin Auctions will have it on display.
