Voice Over Talent Hits The Jackpot in Las Vegas

It has been a lifelong goal and it finally happened last week for Connecticut resident and voice actor Randye Kaye who didn't even have to step into a casino to realize it.

Jan. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Kaye is a well respected voice over talent who has recently been selected as the station promo voice for radio station 106.9 The Q in Las Vegas. The role of a radio promo voice is highly sought after by voice actors as it is a regular and well remunerated role.

For those unfamiliar with the industry and its terminology, a promo voice is the voice listeners hear between all songs announcing the station name and frequency, along with announcements of competitions the station may be currently running.

Thanks to technology and the changing face of the voice over industry, Ms Kaye can even work in her pajamas and not even have to step foot outside her home. Home studios are becoming an increasingly required re-requisite of the voice over world as many jobs continue to move online.

It is another feather in the hat for Kaye who’s had a career that spans across radio, television and public speaking.  “It’s fast becoming one of my most favorite VO gigs in a steady career. I got a message from a client who had heard and loved my voice demo on The Voice Realm casting site, and sent me a script to audition for. After a few messages back and forth, I was selected as the stations’ new imaging voice.” Kaye explains with a smile.

The Voice Realm is one a few online voice over websites where clients can bypass expensive advertising agencies and casting directors to go straight to the voice actor.

The shift to online work continues across many industries. The ‘telecommunicating’ explosion of the 90’s started with Hollywood movie trailer voice over guys recording for clients in other cities via ISDN, a technology that allows digital transmission of voice over ordinary telephone copper wires. Then mp3 files took over as a cheap and fast way to send files through the internet.

Kaye is one of thousands of voice talent that now enjoy the benefits of freelance work from home no matter how far they are from studios in Los Angeles or New York City. “I get voiceover bookings through many sources, including my favorite: repeat customers and referrals.“

It might not be the ‘Vegas Jackpot’ that many hope for, but the voice over industry is a lucrative one due to its specialized nature.

Robert James, marketing manager for the website based in New York City says voice acting isn’t for everyone. “There’s a substantial investment that may voice actors make in equipment, training and marketing that many newcomers don’t realize. So an ongoing job like what Randye has landed is the ultimate.”

The site helps businesses small and large add professional voice actors to on-hold phone systems, website videos, audio books, e-learning narrations and any sort of application that requires a human voice.
