May 28, 2013 - PRLog -- A new business analytics layering strategy is being proposed by revenue assurance (RA) and fraud management (FM) software supplier cVidya Networks.  Its purpose is to broaden the usefulness of a base RA/FM platform by serving up added use case "layers" for other departments such as marketing and finance. It’s about combining applications and data sources from many directions.  Indeed, cVidya believes the layered platform will need to communicate across applications developed by other solution vendors and a telco's internal IT shops.

At cVidya, this strategy is embodied in a new cVidya Insight™ layer that resides in each of the company's products.

In an exclusive story to Black Swan Journal http://bswan.org/business_insights.asp, Amit Daniel, Marketing and Business Development VP at cVidya explains the value of merging many use cases under a united platform.   Here are highlights from Amit Daniel's analysis:

Will Such a Platform Threaten the Role of the Data Warehouse?

"No, I think this just adds new functionality and flexibility.  Being an IT-controlled platform, data warehouses are constrained by lots of factors: IT’s priorities, IT’s workload/ internal processes — even the data sources IT loads.  By contrast, an RA/FM platform can be tuned to the needs of a small user group and quickly support new data sources."

How Does this New Platform Differ from a Business Intelligence Tool

"A generic business intelligence (BI) tool requires the customer to figure out what data sources, reports, dashboards, and KPIs to pull together.  But our approach simplifies the analysis problem for our customers by embedding intelligence specific to each new layer supported."

What's the Value of Cross-Product Layering?

"The beauty of layering is that the extensive extracting, loading, normalizing and enrichment of data required for RA/FM doesn‘t have to be repeated.  It’s ready to immediately serve up additional insights to the CFO (in uses such as profit/ margin assurance) or to equip marketing with the vital info it needs."

Any Advantages from Use Case Integration?

"Synergies occur when you combine use cases under a single platform.  For instance, fraud management can identify customers who are taking unfair advantage of their price plans.  Now, that information can be turned over to marketing with a mind to get those customers on alternative price plans/offering, say an offer to  increase bandwidth in return for agreeing to move to a more profitable arrangement."

On the Use of the Platform in LTE Wireless

"Layers can be developed to address the intelligence requirements of specific markets such as LTE.  For instance, on our LTE dashboard; marketing can view the actual usage of customers -- how much data they are using per month, from which locations, what types of OTT and other content they are using — and also how much money they are generating."
