Miller Construction Co. Completes Fisher Island Club's World-Class Spa and Fitness Center

(http://www.millerconstruction.com/) has completed the major renovation and expansion of Fisher Island Club’s (http://www.fisherislandclub.com/) world-class, 24,000-square-foot Spa and Fitness Center within the private island community located just off Miami’s shoreline.

         From its luxurious lobby and treatment areas, to six new pools and state-of-the-art fitness facility, the expanded Spa and Fitness Center spotlights fine craftsmanship. The fully tiled pools include new spa, cold plunge, tranquility and Roman bath pools and a refinished lap pool. The redesign’s scope ranged from gutting the interior, replacing floor slab and relocating structural columns, to installing new energy efficient mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.  

While they transformed the interior, the Miller team meticulously preserved the exterior and key design features of the historic building, which was originally the private-plane hangar at the 1920s-era Vanderbilt family Fisher Island estate.  BC Architects of Miami designed the renovation and expansion.

         Using Building Information Modeling (BIM), three-dimensional imaging technology proved essential for the design and construction team, according to Miller Project Executive Chris Hannaka.  “Light fixtures, mechanical, sprinkler and plumbing systems all had to fit in the historic building’s extremely tight ceiling spaces,” Hannaka explained.  “Original drawings were not available, so creating 3-D modeling with Revit BIM software ensured that all systems would fit precisely.”

         Since access to the island site was only by barge or ferry, strategic scheduling of crews and staging of deliveries was crucial.  With Fisher Island’s condominiums and club facilities close to the project site, the Miller team minimized interruption to residents and guests, drawing on experience in creating facilities such as the Spa at Lago Mar, Fort Lauderdale.

         Also at Fisher Island Club, Miller has recently completed renovation of several historic golf cottages.
