We are excited to announce that 50,000 copies have been printed and are now in circulation a dozens of venues including the Oceanside Chamber office, Visit Oceanside office, Oceanside Sunset Market, Oceanside Public Libraries and others. In planning this publication, the Chamber decided to divide the City’s history into five separate time periods and to also include special sections on some of Oceanside’s most noteworthy attractions including the Oceanside Municipal Pier, Oceanside Harbor and Mission San Luis Rey, “The King of the Missions.” Oceanside has also had a very interesting history in terms of tourism and entertainment, leading us to create a special section that highlights some of the movies that were filmed here, along with famous entertainers that have visited our community over the years. While Camp Pendleton is not within the city limits of Oceanside, we consider the base and its thousands of Marines, Sailors and their family members to be a vital part of our community. Appropriately, our magazine includes a special section on the history of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton that will give you historical insight into the strong relationship we enjoy with our military neighbors today. From the founding of the historic Mission San Luis Rey 215 years ago to more modern milestones, such as the creation of the City’s Main Street program and California Welcome Center franchise, our special publication provides our readers with a glimpse of some of the important events that have helped shape who we are as a community today. We are hopeful that this magazine will inspire a great sense of community pride in the current residents of Oceanside. For a visual overview of Oceanside’s history, we have included a timeline chart to give you a brief glance at the major happenings in Oceanside over the past 125+ years. The Oceanside Chamber greatly appreciates the businesses that made this magazine possible through their advertisements. We ask that you consider supporting these businesses whenever possible. We are especially grateful to the Oceanside Historical Society for their incredible contribution of articles and photos. We hope that you will pick up a copy today and that you will thoroughly enjoy your walk through Oceanside’s history. End
