Feb. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Widely known as the Academy Awards of Water, the Berkeley Springs International Water Testing Contest took place in the historic spa town of Berkeley Springs, WV and it is the largest water tasting competition in the world. Bottled water literally from all over the globe to include New Zealand, Japan, Croatia, Canada, South Korea, Thailand and Chile competed for the gold, silver and bronze at the Academy Awards of Water. Eleven media judges spent hours tasting and selecting from among 82 waters sourced from twenty-one states and ten foreign countries. Preliminary judging was held on Thursday, February 21, 2103.

The panel of judges look, sniff and taste each water in the contest under guidelines similar to those in a wine tasting. The waters were rated for each attribute including appearance (it should be clear - or slightly opaque for glacial waters), aroma (there should be none), taste (it should taste clean), mouth feel (it should feel light), aftertaste (it should leave you thirsty for more). Waters were tasted in four separate flights over two days with only the top 10 waters advancing to the final tasting conducted on Saturday, February 23, 2013, for the chance to be recognized as the world’s best.
