Follow on Google News | Applications for First Conejo Valley Days Outhouse Races Now AvailableA new Conejo Valley Days (CVD) tradition is starting at this year's festival, Applications are now available for the first annual Conejo Valley Days Outhouse Races. The races will take place Saturday, May 4 at 4:00 p.m. at CVD.
"Outhouse races have been taking place at festivals and fairs throughout the country for years," says Dennis Mayer, outhouse race chairperson. "We thought it would be fun and entertaining to hold a race at CVD. Entrants can be creative with their design and winning enables them the opportunity for a unique kind of bragging rights." Entering outhouses must be delivered to the CVD site by Tuesday, April 30 between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The racecourse distance is about 200 feet on grass. Specific rules for building and racing the outhouses are found on the CVD website along with an entry form. The deadline to enter is April 17. The entry fee is $35. "Each outhouse entry must have its name displayed on the exterior of the outhouse," says Mayer. "We suggest those interested in participating recruit their family, friends or co-workers to form teams." Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. In addition, there will be a "People’s Choice Award."
