Follow on Google News | ![]() African Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs in Brooklyn Host NYS Senator Eric AdamsBy: MUI PR Senator Eric Adams, who recently announced his historic bid for Brooklyn Borough President, has the support of several population groups and politicians in Brooklyn, including the incumbent Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz. Touted as the best candidate for Borough President, the four-term Senator who fielded questions from the audience and via social media during his visit on Friday educated the audience on four select areas of his political platform. “There’s something special about Brooklyn and during my term we will make the spirit of Brooklyn come alive,” said Senator Adams, who promised to promote sustainable tourism and direct thriving commerce opportunities to Brooklyn. Along those lines, Senator Adams also discussed his interest in cultivating Brooklyn’s human capital to elevate the”24% of residents who are in poverty”. “You can’t raise kings and queens on chicken wings and fries; we have a duty to provide access to healthy food options to residents in the great city of Brooklyn,” he told the audience. Senator Adams also spoke of his interest in supporting seniors. “Over 30% of residents are seniors—we need to provide services that will enrich the lives of this growing subgroup of residents in Brooklyn.” He also encouraged more civic engagement among African business leaders in Brooklyn, via platforms like ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ saying that it is the only way politicians can appreciate their value proposition and respect their voice in the electoral process. The ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ platform was created to provide African business owners, entrepreneurs and political enthusiasts with the opportunity to interact and build professional relationships with politicians and political parties that they may not have access to" says Anie Akpe-Lewis, IBOM LLC founder, entrepreneur and creative driver of ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’. I thank Senator Adams for accepting our invitation to speak at our inaugural event, and hope that he continues to leverage ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ as the primary platform to convey messages and stories to key influencers and leaders in the African community.” Images from the event, courtesy of AminAmeen Photography, are now available online (http://www.facebook.com/ About Business, Cocktails and Politics: Headquartered in New York and founded by Ms. Anie Akpe-Lewis (VP, Mortgage Operations at Municipal Credit Union), ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ is a campaign about creating a social environment for Africans in the Diaspora to become active participants in local government politics.
