Vascular Access Centers in Lafayette, LA was the first site to deploy the VASCADE™ Vascular Closure System upon its approval in the United States.

(Lafayette, LA) March 13, 2013 – Vascular Access Centers (VAC) is proud to announce the use of the first VASCADE™ Vascular Closure System upon its approval in the United States.

Developed by Cardiva Medical, Inc., VASCADE™ is an extravascular closure device which utilizes a unique delivery system based on a proprietary collapsible disc technology. This technology provides temporary hemostasis during the procedure which eliminates the need for an intra-vascular component.

The device was first used by Vascular Access Centers during a procedure conducted at the VAC of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, LA.  Two days later the device was utilized during a procedure at the VAC of New Orleans in Metairie, LA.

According to Dr. James McGuckin, who performed both operations, the device offers patients significant advantages over conventional extravascular closure devices. “The VASCADE™ Vascular Closure System is a safe and effective alternative to manual compression,” he said. “We are pleased to offer patients this device to further enhance the quality of care provided by Vascular Access Centers.”
