DUBLIN, Calif. - March 13, 2013 - PRLog -- California’s marketplace where small businesses are bought and sold continues a slow recovery from the recession-caused slump, with buyers representing pent-up demand, but frequently unable to complete their deals. A new eBook by a 22-year veteran of the market offers strategies for succeeding against the challenges business buyers face in the New Economy.

"It’s vital that this market recovers because hundreds of thousands of Californians realize that buying a service company, retail store, food franchise or other small business is their best chance of building a solid financial future. They no longer believe that working for someone else is a secure path to the American Dream," said Peter Siegel, author of "Buying a California Business in the New Economy."

"For buyers to be successful, they need to understand the realities of the current market and to be armed with strategies for overcoming the many difficulties they encounter," said Siegel, who is Founder and President of BizBen, California’s leading business for sale Internet community.

In his book, "Buying a California Business in the New Economy" just released as an e-book and available from most major Internet booksellers, Siegel explains why sales of California businesses "fell off the cliff after 2008. The annual total of completed transactions went from 21,689 that year to average about 14,000 every year since.

"We’re learning what it takes to get the small business for sale market back on track in what is emerging as a New Economy--an economic environment that challenges everyone from the grocer on the corner to the fiscal policy experts in Washington."

Siegel said his newest book covers insights and strategies for buyers interested in acquiring existing independent businesses, franchises and business opportunities, and wondering how to get cooperation from owner/sellers and to arrange for financing.

He notes in the book that today’s successful business buyers are learning to complete their deals despite the shortage of business purchase loans, the general mood of uncertainty about the economy, and the other factors that have slowed the rate of business transfers since the mortgage meltdown and banking crisis that followed it.

"Economic history tells us that when consumers and business owners are uncertain about the economy and hesitant to make a move, the stage is set with great opportunities for entrepreneurs who know how to succeed in this kind of environment. That is certainly the case for buyers who are equipped to deal effectively in today’s small business for sale marketplace.

"It’s critical that the hundreds of thousands of Californians looking to buy a small business have access to the tools and ideas they need to succeed in the market. That’s the only way many people will be able to secure their financial futures in an environment where good employment options are not available," according to Siegel. "And for our economy to expand, it needs to be energized by its small business sector, and that can happen only with the successful transitions of companies in a wide range of industries to a new generation of owners."

He said a small business is one that sells for $2 million or less.

Siegel, has written five other books about buying and selling small businesses, and financing the deals, as well as hundreds of articles and blogs, in a career devoted to educating and connecting buyers, sellers and the professionals they employ to help complete their transactions. He also hosts BizBen radio programs, conducts webinars and has, for many years, provided consulting services for business buyers and sellers throughout the country.
