Palos Verdes Ballet Presents 33rd Anniversary Production Of “A Classical Evening”

"A Classical Evening" will celebrate its 33rd performance on April 6 at 7 p.m. and April 7 at 2 p.m.

PALOS VERDES PENINSULA, Calif. - March 13, 2013 - PRLog -- PALOS VERDES – March 11, 2013 – A feast for the senses awaits audience members as Palos Verdes Ballet Director Uta Graf-Apostol presents a spectacular evening of highlights from the Palos Verdes Ballet’s vast repertoire “A Classical Evening,” performed at the Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 6th at 7pm and Sunday, April 7th at 2pm.

“This production will showcase our newest generation of dancers as we also proudly recognize the recent accomplishments of our established students,” said Uta Graf-Apostol.

A Classical Evening includes the audience favorites – well loved classical variations as well as original contemporary variations choreographed by former Kirov artist Adonis Daukaev for the 2013 Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP). This year will mark the eleventh generation of Palos Verdes Ballet dancers to take part in the competition, which is attended by students throughout the United States and the world.

The production starts with a famous choreographic work after Danish choreographer Harald Lander’s études with original score by Carl Czerny – a ballet in one act that begins with traditional ballet exercises at a barre and ends with spectacular bravura displays. Also featured will be Palos Verdes Ballet’s youngest generation performing Tchaikovsky’s most recognizable piece of music, the joyous children’s “Garland Waltz” from Sleeping Beauty, and Umbrella Dance from Shostakovich’s ‘Music Box Waltz.’

This is followed by Excerpts from “Giselle”, “Diana & Acteon”, and mesmerizing “Grand Pas de Quatre”, choreographed by one of ballet’s influential legends, Anton Dolin.  The pre-professional company will conclude the evening with Act III Grand pas de deux from “Don Quixote” (the wedding scene), partnered by guest artist Sayat Asatryan, a former artist from the Bolshoi Ballet.

Tickets are $32 for adults and $22 for children.

Tickets can be purchased through the Norris Theatre box office at (310) 544-0403 or online at www.norriscenter.com. Groups of 20 or more save $1.00 per ticket.
