NEW YORK - March 14, 2013 - PRLog -- New York, NY (March 14, 2013) – DEATH METAL ANGOLA (http://www.deathmetalangola.com) has been selected for the Documentary Feature Competition at the 2013 Sarasota Film Festival, with screenings scheduled on April 11 at 5:30pm and on April 13th at 9:30pm. This North American premiere follows closely on the heels of the documentary’s celebrated European and World premieres at International Film Festival Rotterdam and Dubai International Film festival. The film is produced by CABULA6 and Coalition Films and is Jeremy Xido’s directorial debut.

DEATH METAL ANGOLA is an intricate portrait of the rise of hardcore death metal in Angola, as its people struggle to rise above the aftermath of decades of war. The documentary tracks protagonists, Wilker Flores and Sonia Ferreira's dream – to stage Angola’s first-ever national rock concert, bringing together members from different strands of the Angolan hardcore scene from different provinces – as it unfolds in fits and starts against the bombed out and mined backdrop of the formerly stately Huambo. Rubble and deconstructed spaces provide scenic reminders of why hardcore music has gained a foothold.

DEATH METAL ANGOLA has been critically acclaimed with reviews from the Huffington Post as “A cult classic in the making” from IndieWire as an “absorbing, beautifully shot...superb film” and The Hollywood Reporter as “Raucously crowd pleasing,” among other positive reviews.
