By: Matter Communications The public is invited to attend the Clothes for Hope “Shop for a Cause” event at 114 Bridge Road (Route 1) in Salisbury, Mass., on March 23 and 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and noon to 4 p.m., respectively, to purchase famous designer and brand name merchandise and accessories at discount prices. The proceeds from the event will help educate children from the New Seed International School and Orphanage in Ho, Ghana. Founded by 18-year-old Newburyport High School senior Lauren Sundstrom, Clothes for Hope is a nonprofit organization that is fueled by the annual sale of new and very gently used clothing. Last year’s profits of nearly $30,000 enabled the group to build Clothes for Hope Middle School and the Library for New Seed International. It also funded the purchase of new computers, whiteboards, countless school supplies and more than 100 desks for those facilities. In Ghana, children can only attend public school if they wear a uniform, so the organization also supported students of the Woe-Keta School District by purchasing 180 of these mandatory uniforms and many other supplies. “When I returned from my visit to Ghana in 2011 and started Clothes for Hope, I had no idea that the community – and designers and retailers near and far – would embrace this cause like they have,” said Sundstrom. “This wouldn’t be possible without the more than 200 volunteers who donate their time - and local businesses like ENPRO Services Inc., which donated its future corporate headquarters for the location of this year’s sale, and TJX Companies and Verizon Wireless, which have so generously supported our efforts. I’m overwhelmed by the support we receive and I hope everyone will come out on March 23 and 24 to take advantage of the sale and make this year’s event an even greater success.” On Saturday, March 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the “Shop for a Cause” event will feature carefully selected, new and gently used items with an average cost of $10. New clothing and accessories with original tags will be marked down to 20 percent of their purchase price. On Sunday, all of the Saturday prices will be reduced by 50 percent. Clothing for the sale has been donated from the likes of: French Lessons Boutique, Amy Williams Boutique, John Farley Clothiers, Pretty Poppy, Zia Clothing Outlet, Marc Jacobs, Victorinox, Silver Jeans, Tommy Bahama, Martin Dingman Leather Belts, and John Forsyth Shirt Co. All clothing that is not purchased at the sale will be donated to more than 15 organizations around the Seacoast and North Shore areas. The clothing sale will take place at the new ENPRO building on Route 1, located at 114 Bridge Road in Salisbury, Mass.
