Big News Network beefing up original news content

NEW YORK - March 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Pumping out news 24 hours a day, seven days a week is a struggle for many news services around the world. For Big News Network, one of the oldest online publishers, it is even more challenging because of its range of several hundred categories.

"Generating content for obscure countries and cities, and less-popular topics, is a continuing challenge for us," a Big News Network spokesman said Wednesday.

"With the closure of news bureaux and downsizing of news rooms, the issue is exacerbated as more and more news media outsource large components of their news content to mainstream news wires such as The Associated Press, Reuters and AFP," the Big News spokesman said.

"We are finding it more and more difficult to locate branded news that is unique."

The global news publisher, which overseas two platforms of news portals as well as generating content for its own signature site Big News Network.com is looking to increase the amount of content it generates itself. The team already has in-house journalists in two Australian cities, and has an editorial team in India. The group subscribes to a number of news wires, however some of these are restricted to one or more platforms only. The Big News spokesman said his group was now looking at one of the majors, "simply because we are finding it hard to maintain a qualitative edge with the inventory of content we're currently using."

The Big News Network is not on its own although it is a little different because of the extent of its coverage and in providing content for a large number of sites it is faced not only qith quality challenges but issues relating to quantity as well.

"We need to geneate a minimum 20 stories a day for each category," the spokesman said. "That's becoming increasingly harder to do day in, and day out."
