BLACKPOOL, U.K. - April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- CME Medical, the UK’s fastest growing infusion company, is pleased to announce that it has recently sponsored the Educator of the Year Award at the 2013 International Journal of Palliative Nursing (IJPN) Awards. Hosted in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support, the awards were held in London on 14th March 2013.

The aim of the awards is to recognise excellence in palliative care, demonstrating quality, dedication and innovation in service to patients, with the award categories reflecting the range of activities and individuals involved.

It is the second year that CME Medical has sponsored the Educator of the Year Award which is presented to a committed and influential educator who has contributed to the expansion of palliative nursing knowledge through the development of, for example, new educational strategies and materials; learning networks that improve the skills and knowledge of nurses, patients, families, or carers; or the means to assess the outcomes of education.

This year there were three prizes awarded within the Educator of the Year category sponsored by CME Medical, which went to:

FIRST PRIZE - Professor Hyun Sook Kim, Department of Social Welfare, Korea National University of Transportation, Republic of Korea

Professor Hyun Sook Kim brought together a group of excellent nurses and academics in hospice and palliative care to organise an End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project delivering three national “train the trainer” courses. She is committed to improving palliative care for Korean children facing grave illness and their families.

SECOND PRIZE - Franciscah Ndayiziveyi Tsikai, Island Hospice Service, Zimbabwe

Francis Tsikai designed the training calendar for all team members and was involved in curriculum development for palliative care training in Namibia. She developed the mentorship and supervision tool to support practice and ensure excellent standards and quality of care. Her young carer programme aims to improve the quality of life of vulnerable children, some facing HIV, TB and bereavement.

THIRD PRIZE - Dr Lisa Boulstridge, Heart of England NHS Trust, England

Dr Lisa Boulstridge has led the development of a new and innovative training model, which uses high-fidelity simulation techniques to facilitate experiential learning in palliative and end of life care. In collaboration with the Hollier Simulation Centre, and the Heart of England NHS Trust Hospital, a range of courses have been created.

“We believe that education is the key to success in any clinical environment, which is why we chose to sponsor this important award category,” said Andrew Churnside, Sales and Marketing Director at CME Medical. “We are advocates of high quality clinical education and our skilled team works closely with our customers to ensure that their training needs are met to a high standard.”
