The large, sparkling Aquarium Care Center offers an amazing selection of live coral displays with state-of-the-art custom coral holding stations. Rather than taking coral from the wild, ACC harvests and grows its own coral for sale. Thousands of gallons of rare and exotic fish, including a selection of saltwater fish, invertebrates, and African cichlids are on site, along with affordable new Nano aquariums.

The Aquarium Care Center opened this spring, but its owner, John Stevenson, has been in the saltwater aquarium business for over 20 years. His creation of ACC, an outgrowth of his many years in the industry, brings the saltwater aquarium experience to an entirely new level, adding specialized features Mr. Stevenson’s clients have clamored for, but are only now available through advanced technology.

“I developed the concept for ACC by listening to my customers and learning from them as well as through my own vast experience,” Mr. Stevenson said. “At ACC, we are showcasing the full and ever-expanding world of saltwater fish and aquariums. We are not a superstore. Our emphasis is on science, education and customer service. We are here for the individual and for everybody interested in salt water fish tanks.”

With a background in building and designing tanks of all shapes and sizes, he and his well-trained staff can create a customized tank for your home or business ranging from ten to 15,000 gallons, or help you set them up yourself. Internationally famous entertainment and sports stars, as well as commercial firms small and large are among satisfied clients who enjoy his custom-made aquariums.

Formerly located in West Long Branch, Mr. Stevenson moved his service business to Ocean in 2012 and kept that going while the new ACC retail section was being constructed. A prime feature of the new ACC is a state-of-the-art water lab, so important in successful aquarium maintenance.

“We listened and learned from the people who come into our store,” John said. “We like to see what makes them excited, so we are now emphasizing an interactive experience. The shopping experience here is like nothing we’ve ever seen anywhere else.” In addition to seminars led by renowned hobbyists and manufacturers’ representatives, there will be movie nights for parents and children, beginner classes and more. Customers can get their questions answered; learn how products work and get helpful tips to keep their tanks clean, lively and an endless source of relaxation, joy and entertainment for all ages.

A client “dashboard” on the firm’s website, www.saltwaterfishnj.com,  allows customers to interact with ACC staff and each other. From the comfort of home, customers can post and view photos as well as touch their screen to peruse and order fish online. A counter system will allow both free and paid members to swipe their store card so ACC knows who they are and enters all purchased to go into their dashboard.

“We want people to touch and feel the products, learn about the newest pumps and discover recent innovations and cutting edge products to make the experience easier and more satisfying,” John said. In addition to regular hours, generally 11:00 a.m. – 8 p.m. seven days per week, private shopping and private appointments are available. Appointments can be booked online.

A Unique Membership Program

Our first-of-its-kind value-driven Membership Program allows hobbyists to join at one of three levels: Platinum, Gold and Silver. Each membership comes with exclusive privileges and specialized perks, including significant discounts on fish, corals, other products and certain services. The membership program was created and tailored to the expressed needs and desires of customers, based on direct feedback, Mr. Stevenson said. Members can log on and get information on testing and more.
