Employee files retaliation claim against The Painted Nail.

Employee reported to state board of cosmetology that the nail salon was using unlicensed manicurists.

LOS ANGELES - April 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Late last year, Chalet Briscoe, former cosmetologist working at The Painted Nail (http://www.thepaintednail.com/), a nail salon in the San Fernando Valley on 13327 Ventura Blvd  Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 (818) 783-2022 filed a complaint against the nail salon and owner Katie Kazorla for retaliation.

Briscoe claims that Kazorla, the owner of the Painted Nail, which is the subject of the TV show the Nail Files, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_Files_(TV_series) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_Files_(TV_series)
was using unlicensed cosmetologists in the nail salon.  Briscoe alleges that she was terminated shortly after Kazorla found out that Briscoe had reported her to the state board of cosmetology for hiring unlicensed cosmetologists at the Painted Nail.

Briscoe's complaint alleges that Kazorla left a message on Briscoe's answering machine saying how hurt she was that Briscoe would report her business to the department of cosmetology and subsequently told her never to come back to work at the Painted Nail.

Jonathan Delshad, attorney for Briscoe reports that on February 13, 2013  The Painted Nail was fined $10,000 by the State of California DLSE for violating labor code 1102.5.   The DLSE also ordered The Painted nail to immediately cease and desist from retaliating against employees for engaging in protected activity. The ruling is now under appeal by Kazorla's attorneys.  Shortly after receiving this letter from the DLSE, the Painted Nail filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
