After a night’s rest, wing your way above the glitter of golden spires en route to Kathmandu, Nepal, a kingdom nestled amidst terraced hillsides that foot the tallest mountains in the world. Completely surrounded by neighboring giants, India and China, while fostering a cloistered philosophy in its approach to the outside world, this tiny kingdom for years remained a remote and untraveled destination. It offers the visitor a unique opportunity to observe a culture completely foreign to western tradition in a condition relatively unchanged by the passage of time. Begin your tour in search of three cities: Patan, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. Find them so very different; so very colorful; so very exciting. The mixture of Hinduism, Buddhism and Animism manifests itself in the style, architecture and generations- Another exciting passage will be a visit to Tiger Tops jungle resort at Tharu village. Wake to the trumpeting call of the elephants beckoning you for your morning safari. Safely nestled within your howdah atop the elephant, you begin to feel the mild sway that denotes the gentle stride of this magnificent animal. Whether sighting Bengal tiger, rhino or merely birdlife and deer, your safari across river, marshlands and jungle will long be remembered. An afternoon stroll through the village provides a genuine observation of the lifestyle of the Nepalese in an authentic setting. At evening, many of the villagers will come to the resort to perform a series of their traditional dances. Your journey continues to Benaras (Varanasi), India, thought by many to be the holiest of Indian cities. A morning boat ride on the river Ganges provides an intimate look at the hundreds of worshippers who come to pay their respects to the sacred Ganges and to celebrate the birth of a new day. Disembark and stroll the narrow lanes of the old city to capture the true essence of daily life within this centuries-old community. Proceed to Agra, site of the Taj Mahal. Visit the Red Fort at Agra and at day’s end; enjoy the pleasure of your accommodation at the Oberoi Vanyavillas, where every room has a view of the Taj. Depart Agra for the sandstone city of Fatephur Sikri en route to the luxury jungle resort and tiger sanctuary located near the Ranthambore National Park. The park covers a core of some 150 square miles, the habitat for numerous carnivores, the most spectacular being the Bengal tiger. Enjoy the excitement of safari as you travel through the jungle-like setting in search of that mighty predator. Passage continues to the Pink City of Jaipur.
