Fife Country turns 125 years old

Scotland’s oldest mail order company is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a range of events and promotions over the forthcoming year.

CUPAR, Scotland - April 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Fife Country will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary with a range of events and promotions throughout the year, including stands at the Highland Show and Scottish Game Fair, the development of exclusive new ranges of British-made tweed clothing and British-made footwear, historic window displays at their Strathmiglo shop, as well as special offers in-store and via its website www.fifecountry.co.uk.

Recognised as the oldest mail order company in Scotland and with a retail shop that has been in Strathmiglo since the early 1900's, Fife Country was founded by Andrew T Hogg in 1888 and originally traded under the 'FIFE' name.

Andrew T Hogg was a trained cobbler and FIFE boots were soon widely sought after, with the company becoming known as 'Pioneers and Leaders of Boots by Post'. After initially specialising in working boots, supplied to all parts of Scotland, dressier footwear styles were later added. Subsequently the company moved into clothing, introducing heavy duty waterproofs in the 1960's, as well as an extensive range of safety footwear amd workwear through the 1970's. Fife Country now offers a diverse range of town and country clothing and footwear, for men and women, ideal for outdoor activities, work or leisure.

The Hogg name still also survives, as the name under which a sister business (Hoggs of Fife Ltd) now distributes footwear and clothing to farm supply shops and country retailers throughout the UK. The Hoggs of Fife brand itself is also stocked by Fife Country, and is the brand of choice for most country professionals and enthusiasts throughout Scotland and most of the rest of the UK.

Fife Country is still family owned, and continues to grow and prosper. In keeping with the modern age, they now offer a comprehensive website www.fifecountry.co.uk , with all products available online. In addition, their previously small retail shop in Strathmiglo now covers close to 2000 square foot, and is visited, on day trips, by customers as far afield as the North of England. As part of the Jubilee celebrations, historic window displays are on show at the Strathmiglo shop, telling a visual story of the business through the decades, including vintage shoe displays, footwear tools and mail order catalogues going back to the turn of the 20th Century. Fife Country is also looking to redevelop its shop so that even more space can be devoted to its outdoor range of country clothing and footwear.

Robert Gibson, Managing Director and great grandson of the founder said 'It is with great pleasure that we have been able to serve our customers in Fife, Britain and overseas by supplying top quality country clothing and footwear for the last 125 years. Our success has been, not only due to the quality of the clothes and shoes that we offer, but also our staff, some of whom have been with us for over 25 years and who make it their priority to offer only the best customer service. Our customers have shown us loyalty over the years and we would also like to take this opportunity to thank them.'

Fife Country has a range of events and promotions organised throughout the forthcoming year but would like to encourage everyone who is attending the Highland Show and Scottish Game Fair to visit their stand and take part in their 125th Anniversary prize draw. Fife Country are also planning to donate clothing to a charity based in Fife and would encourage interested non-profit making organisations to contact them to discuss further.
