The industry and mobile app development companies recognize an innovation vacuum!

Looking beyond the Apple vs Samsung fight, there is an innovation crunch in the Smartphone industry. Read more!

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. - April 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Apple share prices have fallen; Samsung galaxy S4 has hit the market and getting the maximum attention on blogs. Meanwhile the Samsung fanboys are out in the streets with their favorite cliché “final nail in the apple coffin” which degrades its authenticity as many times it is repeated.  We all know that Apple is not going to close down as it has a golden egg laying app store beside it. But yes, the demand for iPhones has gone down and in the long term it might threaten the pool of iPhone app development companies in a ripple effect. On the other hand, an unbiased take on the galaxy s4 would also reveal that the phone lacks on solid innovation that could not revolutionize a particular facet of our lives. It may be a passionate fight between the fanboys but such signals hint that at the basic levels both Apple and Samsung is facing brunt of a matured Smartphone market.

The iPhone 5 lag
Apple has to admit that the iPhone 5 was not upto the mark as expected by the users. Even the iPhone app developers were not satisfied with the phone. The problem was aggravated when the map fiasco happened and iPhone app development companies could not trust to integrate their apps to Apple maps. The x factor with every iPhone release was not there. “We were expecting something great but the phone was not really encouraging” says Jayneel Patel Managing Director of Openxcell Technolabs, an iPhone app development veteran.  But before that GS3 was already creating waves with a better tech specification. The smart stay tech generated likeliness from users and experts made it memorable for android fans. However, one would not differ that the smart stay tech is not used actively by user and it did not revolutionize much. The momentum of Samsung was overwhelming and Apple’s poor product launch not only posed questions against its capacity to innovate but also raised doubts to keeps the basics right. After everything Samsung emerged as the king by selling 10m S3s in 100 days.

The truth out in the open
Samsung lovers would argue but a premium device is obliged to show some value which is proportional to the price users are paying. Being said that a cheap looking plastic chassis that has been criticized repeatedly should have been changed.  But it did not and it puts a question mark towards the company’s ability to phones with better build quality in the premium segment. Moreover just like the S3, the S4 is also bundled with software such as auto video pause, dual camera mode etc. Much has been written by bloggers praising these techs, but again the video pause and the dual cam could go the smart stay way. For once let’s consider the dual cam.  Can you imagine a situation where the user feels the urge to click photos/videos of object that are behind their eyes? Yes, the phone might serve as a great tool in recording a few moments but does not give an impact. Not only the features, the launch was very noisy with more emphasis on artists and not the device. May be Samsung was aware about the limitations and tried its best to over shadow them with a glitzy show. Like the iPhone, the stagnation of innovation is also reflected in the S4 now.

Apart from S4 the company has yet again launched two more phablets with one of them crafted with a 6.3 inch screen. When the Note 2 was already there, the purpose of disrupting the market again does raise a few questions. If the company is aware about implied cannibalization risks then this decision surely looks like a gamble which is solely based on giving a bigger screen to the users.

The innovation vacuum is clearly visible. And with equally good competitors like Xperia Z and HTC one, Samsung stretching its screens to unbearable sizes and beefing up the hardware as well.  At this moment iPhone app developers and various mobile app development companies could only hope that the fall brings some exciting stuff from Apple and gives the market something substantial.
