Follow on Google News | Opus Energy kick-starts Mencap fundraising: £6K raised in a weekTo launch its partnership with Mencap, employees from energy supplier Opus Energy set themselves a week’s worth of weird and wonderful fundraising activities from 8-12 April, resulting in a grand total of £6,797.08 being raised for the charity.
By: Opus Energy Teams from across the business rolled up their sleeves and took each other on in challenges ranging from a Man vs. Food chilli soup war to an Ant and Dec talent show. An egg and spoon race and bake off also proved very popular. In total the staff raised £3,398.54 for the charity, a figure which Opus Energy will then match. The money will go towards supporting Opus Energy’s aim to raise £20,000 for charity over the next year. Charlie Crossley Cooke, Managing Director, Opus Energy, comments: “The support and creative thinking from staff for the Mencap Challenge has been fantastic and we have been blown away by the amount of money that everybody has raised. It was a fun week and we look forward to seeing even more inventive fundraising ideas as we continue with our pledge to raise £20K for this great cause.” Sue, Customer Service Administrator, Opus Energy’s Northampton office said: “I was very happy to support the Mencap Challenge and enter the bake off. I thought I would enter one cake but ended up entering three! I was so happy to know that my cakes contributed to a fundraising amount of over £30.” Marie Brown, Regional Development Manager, Mencap, commented: “We get the opportunity to work with some amazing people who care very passionately about the support their fundraising gives to people with a learning disability, but the work of Opus Energy has astounded the team. We are thrilled to work with such an enthusiastic and proactive bunch of people. I met some of the fundraisers during their challenge week and the business really was buzzing. The total raised is testament to that hard work and dedication. I am really looking forward to seeing what fun ideas Opus Energy’s employees come up with for the rest of the year. What a fantastic start.” ENDS Note to editors:Interviews with Annamarie Petsis Jones, Head of HR, Learning & Development at Opus Energy, are available upon request.
