Historic Salem, Inc. to host 69th Annual Meeting with speaker Anthony Flint

SALEM, Mass. - April 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Historic Salem, Inc. will hold its 69th Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 5:30 p.m. at the Salem Five Community Room, located at 210 Essex Street in historic Salem, Massachusetts. The evening will include presentation of HSI’s 2013 Preservation Awards and a lecture by acclaimed reporter and urban policy expert, Anthony Flint, Fellow and Director of Public Affairs at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.

Mr. Flint is a former reporter for The Boston Globe, a Loeb Fellow, visiting scholar at Harvard University School of Design, and policy adviser for the Massachusetts state government. He has written extensively on topics relating to the built environment—exploring the social, political, and cultural influences affecting the development of buildings and landscapes. His books include Wrestling with Moses: How Jane Jacobs Took on New York's Master Builder and Transformed the American City and This Land: The Battle over Sprawl and the Future of America, a cultural and political analysis of the smart growth movement. His next book, The Raven: The Story of Le Corbusier, Maker of the Modern, will be published in 2014. He lectures nationwide on urbanism, sustainability, and trends in land-use and policy.

Historic Salem’s Preservation Awards are granted annually to businesses, organizations, and private homeowners who have demonstrated a passion for historic preservation in Salem. Nominees are submitted by members of the community and may include private residences, commercial properties, publicly or non-profit owned properties and landscape projects. The meeting agenda includes a reception, with light refreshments, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The business meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Preservation Awards presentation and lecture. Parking can be found in the nearby Museum Place garage or Church Street lot.
