The GΦlden Years: The First Half- Discover the debut novel

“…some sort of transplanted, updated Voltaire, Dickens, Dostoyevsky, on the surface pretending like he’s just one of the alley-guys….” ―Hugh Fox for Small Press Review (founding member of the Pushcart Prize)

YAKIMA, Wash. - April 26, 2013 - PRLog -- The GΦLDEN YEARS: THE FIRST HALF© is a tour of an America, wounded and festering.  Its Northwest working-class people are badly damaged: Vietnam vets, bigoted townspeople, and good men sidelined by history. At the novel's center is Luellen, bound to a psychotic husband, barely literate but wise, encoding her waking dreams and nightmares on postcards from Hell. Reading this book is a terrifying ride through time in which the personal trajectories of the characters seem always to be crashing against the disheartening realities of racial prejudice, domestic abuse, and justice perverted. M.J. Davis uses bold strokes to make us pay attention, and his gifts for both prose and poetry shine through.

―Carol Alexander- Ph.D. in American literature from Columbia University and author of Bridal Veil Falls.
