By: H/L Communications for One Health Organization One Health Organization, founded in 2008 by Gates Mills veterinarian Anna M. van Heeckeren, is based on the premise that the health of people, animals, and environments are inextricably linked. Without the health of one, the health of the other two fail. Unfortunately, too many seniors on fixed or reduced incomes face the dilemma of choosing between caring for themselves or for their beloved animal companions. To help seniors and their pets, One Health has focused on “Vets On Wheels,” a program that offers veterinary care to seniors at their places of residence, and may underwrite a portion of the cost based on the seniors’ incomes. Vets On Wheels veterinary services include wellness checks, vaccinations, disease/parasite testing, parasite treatments when needed, treating many common illnesses, and pet owner education. Depending on availability of funds, fees are subsidized for those who provide proof of financial need. “Vets On Wheels’ delivery of trained and qualified veterinary teams to treat dogs or cats owned by seniors who cannot afford high veterinarian fees without help, or who cannot access a veterinarian, makes a real difference,” http://youtu.be/_ “We will celebrate One Health’s 5th year anniversary with an enjoyable evening of noshing, mingling, music, and making new friends,” promises Dr. Anna. Those who cannot attend can support the organization via a donation or a raffle that rewards the winner – who need not be present to win – with the choice of one of three spectacular trips valued from about $6,000 to $13,000. Major benefit sponsors are the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, Dollar Bank, Embrace Pet Insurance, and H/L Communications. Other partners include the Cleveland Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Human Capital Advisors, JumpStart Inc., Stautzenberger College, and UBS. More information about the benefit and raffle can be found at One Health’s website, http://onehealth.org, or on its Facebook page. Event tickets are available through Tuesday, May 14. Raffle tickets (which are limited in number and cost $100) are available until the drawing on May 16. Both can be purchased online at http://www.onehealth.org or by calling 216.920-3051.
