TAMPA, Fla. - May 2, 2013 - PRLog -- When Florida-based rapper/inventor/entrepreneur Tampa Tony first introduced his blunt-splitting breakthrough “Da Splitta” as a marketing tool for his Splitter Records rap group Splitta Squad, the handy, discreet device revolutionized the art of re-rolling cigars and simultaneously introduced their music to the masses.

Sliding stogies or cigarillos through Da Splitta’s quarter-inch-thick tube makes clean, seamless, perfect slices every time. Selling more than 40,000 pieces, the group and invention garnered national attention with a feature in High Times magazine.

But the label didn’t stop at just Da Splitta. They also moved their own pint-sized bobble head dolls and exclusive line of DS Sneakers. Splitter Records continued to brand themselves and maintain a faithful fan base with Southern classics such as “Keep Jukin,” “She Lies,” “Bobblehead,” “Can’t Juke Without Me” and their most noted track “J.O.D.D.,” featuring Trick Daddy, Tampa Tony and Khia. “J.O.D.D.” was featured in motion pictures Into the Blue and 40 Year Old Virgin as well as the video game Midnight Club 3- Dub City.

Unfortunately after Tony got caught on the wrong side of the law, the label was forced to redirect its focus. It entered into a new joint venture deal with Great Things Entertainment and released Splitta Squad’s budding international single “Superstar (remix)” featuring Florida heavyweight artists Lil Kee and Famous Kid Brick. And with the release of their upcoming mixtape The Re-Creation, this dynamic duo is well on the way to blowing up beyond the clouds.

“With the growing success of their crossover smash single, ‘Superstar,’ the rest of album should be full of hits,” says Julia Beverly, publisher of Ozone magazine.

Made up of rappers Chicago-born transplant Great and native Florida boy Chucky Boy, Splitta Squad has been based in Tampa since the group’s inception. Chuck is optimistic with a positive outlook while Great is a laid-back, easy-going go getter. Both are really humble. And together, they’ve been cranking out hits for more than five consecutive summers.

“Tampa Tony inspired me to really take his music more seriously,” says Great. “He also inspired both of us to be innovative and come up with different things that would catch the eye of people rather just be regular rappers.”

They officially stepped onto the scene in 2007 with their self-titled debut EP and gained regional fame with popular singles “Hustlers Cry,” “Squidy Up,” “Squad Sings” and “Who I Be.”

Along with group efforts, they have individually kept busy dropping landmines. In 2008, Great dropped his solo hit single “Ur Body’s Callin Me” and Chucky gained famed with his single “Ridin Out” featuring T-Pain.  

“I do things that even impress myself with,” says Great. “As a group or a solo artist, I try to do things that no one has done or even things I don’t think I can do. What makes us so special as a group is the fact that we both come with so many different angles.”

Chuck agrees, “We touch on pretty much every sound: tecno, dub step, you name it! Our combinations of style, skill and love for the different genres of music make us like no other rap group ever.”

Most recently, they dropped “Superstar (remix)” featuring Florida heavyweight artists Lil Kee and Famous Kid Brick.

“We felt like it was a good idea to remix Superstar with two popular Florida based rappers,” says Great. “We’re all from the same area with one common dream- to be a superstar.”

And they are well on their way to being exactly that with the release of their upcoming mixtape The Re-Creation. “We're focusing on putting out a different kind of sound by staying away from the norm and put out music to show our versatility,” Chucky explain. “That’s what has kept us around for so long and what will continue to have us here.”
