The Temptations of Big Data - A Discussion

Big Data is a term that everybody is talking about and that everyone defines differently. Join us on May 16 for an event with Jake Porway and Jeanette Hofmann on the technological developments and sociological implications of Big Data.
 
NEW YORK - May 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Jake Porway is a machine learning and technology enthusiast, who worked as a data scientist in the New York Times R&D Lab, where he explored the relationships between social media and the process of creating and sharing news, developed interfaces for interaction with new devices, and redefined media as we know it. He is the founder and executive director of DataKind, a non-profit committed to using data in the service of humanity.

Jeanette Hofmann’s work focuses on transnational rulemaking, Internet governance, and the development and enforcement of copyright in the digital environment. She is co-director of the newly founded Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin and a researcher at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB).

Enrico Bertini, a teacher and researcher of information visualization and visual analytics at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU, will moderate.
